Angelina Jolie applies to adopt Vietnamese orphan

Hollywood superstar Angelina Jolie has applied to adopt a Vietnamese child, a top Vietnamese adoption official said on Saturday.
"She has made an application to adopt a boy aged between 3 and 4 years old and her paperwork will be processed according to the regulations like everyone else," Vu Duc Long, director of the Ministry of Justice's International Adoption Department, told Reuters.
Long said the boy Jolie wanted to adopt lives in Tam Binh orphanage in Ho Chi Minh City. He did not give further details.
"Normally it takes about four months to process an adoption request but if she has found the child, it could take much less," he said.
Jolie filed her application through an American adoption agency a few days ago, state media reported.
Jolie and Brad Pitt made a surprise visit to Ho Chi Minh City last November during which they also went to the orphanage to meet children there.

Anna Nicole burial doesn't end wrangling

NASSAU, Bahamas - Anna Nicole Smith — dressed in a designer gown, her coffin covered in a pink rhinestone-studded blanket — was buried in an extravagant funeral, but the fight over her baby and a potential large inheritance remains.
The reality TV star was mourned at a lavish memorial service on Friday, with her companion Howard K. Stern, her mother Virgie Arthur and her former boyfriend Larry Birkhead — all battling for custody of her 5-month-old Dannielynn — in attendance.
Smith's mahogany coffin, topped by the pink blanket with rhinestones spelling out her name, was carried into Mount Horeb Baptist Church as hundreds of tourists and fans watched from behind steel barricades guarded by police. Some in the crowd cried out "Anna! Anna! We love you!"
Inside the church, Smith's favorite color was on display. Pink roses and flower arrangements lined the aisle and adorned the altar, where organizers placed two photos of the blonde bombshell — including one showing her in a shimmering white gown and striking a Marilyn Monroe-like pose.
There were fewer than 100 guests at the service, even though an organizer said about 300, including an "Entertainment Tonight" camera crew, had been invited. Rock guitarist Slash, formerly of Guns N' Roses, was among the guests, and country singer Joe Nichols performed two songs, guests said.
Arthur, Birkhead and Stern took turns eulogizing the 39-year-old Smith, who died last month in a Florida hotel.
"It was pretty tough. The funeral itself was a mixture of emotions, there was a lot of crying and laughing," Birkhead, wearing a pink tie, told MSNBC after the service.
He also referred to comments Stern reportedly made at the service about the legal fight over custody of Smith's daughter.
"We were all given equal amount of time and that's how he chose to spend his time. I wouldn't have used my time that way. ... It doesn't make anything better," Birkhead said.
Kathryn Beranich, a supervising producer on Smith's reality TV show, said she thought Smith would have been happy with the ceremony. "I think she wouldn't have been pleased with the division between her biological family and the extended family she created and loved," she told The Associated Press.
Smith was later buried next to her 20-year-old son, Daniel, who died in September of an apparent drug overdose while visiting Smith in the hospital after she gave birth. "Entertainment Tonight" said she was buried with an urn containing some of the ashes of her late husband, Texas oil tycoon J. Howard Marshall II.
Onlookers, a mixture of Bahamians and tourists, spontaneously broke into the hymn "When Peace Like a River" as the white hearse and the rest of the funeral cortege reached the cemetery. Some in the crowd booed Smith's mother when she arrived, though she had been cheered earlier by the crowd outside the memorial service.
In a last-minute bid to halt the burial, Arthur, who wanted her daughter buried in her native Texas, sought to have Supreme Court Justice Anita Adams grant her custody of Smith's body, but the Bahamian judge denied the request just before the service began, according to Lilliemae MacDonald, the judge's secretary.
Smith was buried in a custom-made gown, said organizer Patrik Simpson of Beverly Hills, Calif.
Some tourists were amazed at all the security and media.
"I'm just incredulous at all the fuss," said Christie Rathgaber, a 59-year-old nurse from Columbus, Ohio. "She was not a world figure. She was not a queen. She was not a president."
The legal wrangling that began with Smith's death won't end with the funeral: There is pending legal action over custody of her daughter, who stands to inherit a fortune, and over ownership of a Bahamas mansion Smith used to establish residency in the islands last year.
An official inquest into the death of Daniel Smith in the Bahamas is also pending.
Dr. Joshua Perper, the Broward Country medical examiner, said he will announce Anna Nicole Smith's cause of death next week. She died on Feb. 8 in a Florida hotel room. "This was a complex case," Perper said. "It was an unusual case from a medical point of view."
Smith married Marshall in 1994 when he was 89 and she was 26. She had been fighting his family over his estimated $500 million fortune since his death in 1995. In May, the Supreme Court ruled that Smith could pursue her claim in federal court.

Hollywood movie studio sues celebrity gossip blogger Perez Hilton over a reportedly stolen topless photograph of Jennifer Aniston he posted on the Internet.

Britney Spears RehabWatch: Cops Crack Down On Paps, Let Celeb Fugitive Escape

A brave Defamer operative in WeHo relates her near-brush with potentially dangerous rehab fugitive Britney Spears, who a little while ago mesmerized some law enforcement officers into assisting her escape from the swarming paparazzi looking to collect the bounty on her bald head:
So, we just experienced Britney blond wig craziness in person, out the window of our office building on Sunset Strip. She was in the passenger seat of a Mercedes wearing her ridiculous blond wig and sunglasses, and there were about 8-9 paparazzi literally jumping on her car taking pictures. There were so many cars, it almost caused an accident here at Sunset and Holloway; probably around 25 on the small side street. There were also about 5 cop cars, with one of them basically pretending to run over the paparazzi to get them out of the street and off her car. They then proceeded to arrest a couple of them. It was pretty insane I must say. The President gets less attention I'm pretty sure. We assume that the police will now be prepared to take the appropriate countermeasures to resist whatever mind-clouding trickery the pop star used to enlist their help in prolonging her ongoing flight from sober justice; the next time they cross paths with Spears, they'll be ready to subdue their clean-shaven quarry and return her to the celebrity lockdown at Promises Malibu so she can serve the entirety of her sentence.

Andrew Niccol Signs Up Al Pacino for 'Dali & I'

Academy Award, Emmy Award and Tony Award-winning actor "Al" Pacino, real name Alfredo James Pacino, is all set to star as surreal artist Salvador Dali in 'Dali & I: The Surreal story'. Directed by Andrew Niccol, the film will highlight Dali's later life when the artist began to focus more on surreal work.
The script is an adaptation of the Stan Lauryssen book called 'Dali and I' and filming will begin in June in New York and Spain. Niccol is rewriting the script they acquired as a spec written by John Salvati.
The movie will span the 1960s-80s, a time when most of Dali's great work was behind him and he became more flamboyant. The story also will focus on a mentor-protege relationship between Dali and Stan Lauryssens, a young art dealer, reports Reuters.
The film will be produced by Room 9 Entertainment partners David O. Sacks, Daniel Brunt and Michael R. Newman, who also produced the hit satirical film, "Thank You for Smoking," reports Variety.
Salvador Felipe Jacinto Dalí Domènech, Marquis of Pubol or Salvador Felip Jacint Dalí Domènech (May 11, 1904 – January 23, 1989), known popularly as Salvador Dalí, was a Spanish artist and one of the most important painters of the 20th century, notes Wikipedia. He was a skilled draftsman, best known for the striking, bizarre, and beautiful images in his surrealist work.
Widely considered to be greatly imaginative, Dalí had an affinity for doing unusual things to draw attention to himself. This sometimes irked those who loved his art as much as it annoyed his critics, since his eccentric manner sometimes drew more public attention than his artwork.

TV eviction welcomed in racism row

British media on Saturday welcomed the eviction of a reality TV show contestant accused of racism and bullying, but criticized the television channel over a show that has whipped up an international storm.
"Celebrity Big Brother" has dominated headlines in Britain and India this week after former dental nurse Jade Goody and other contestants ganged up on Bollywood star Shilpa Shetty, calling her "the Indian" and "Poppadom" and saying "She should f... off home."
Britain's media watchdog received around 40,000 complaints from viewers, top politicians weighed into the row and a major sponsor of the program withdrew its backing.
Internet chatrooms have been abuzz with debate about whether what was said on the show constituted racism, and to what extent Goody and her allies reflected prejudices in society at large. Many people felt the story was exaggerated by the media.
The show's producers said 82 percent of voters had chosen Londoner Goody for eviction over the other nominee, Shetty, in what may be seen as a stand against racial intolerance.
A contrite Goody, 25, denied she was a racist or a bully in her post-eviction interview late on Friday, when the extent of the controversy was revealed to her for the first time.
Contestants are sealed off from the outside world in a house where cameras follow their every move 24 hours a day.
"I can't dignify myself because that video footage of myself is nasty," she said. "I'm not going to sit here and try and justify myself. Yes, I said those things and they were nasty.
"I am not a racist and I sincerely ... apologise to anybody I've offended out there."
Goody rose to fame after taking part in a non-celebrity version of "Big Brother" in 2002, and suggested even before leaving the house that she would pay a price for her behavior.
"It was the beginning of my career and it's the end of my career," she said.

O.J. calls chapter of book fictional

Former football star O.J. Simpson says a chapter from his unpublished book, "If I Did It," that hypothesizes how he would have killed his ex-wife and her friend was created mostly from a ghostwriter's research and is not a confession.
"I'm saying it's a fictional creation," Simpson said Sunday in a telephone interview. "It has so many [factual] holes in it that anybody who knew anything about it would know that I didn't write it."
His comments came as Newsweek magazine published an article for its current issue paraphrasing the chapter, called "The Night in Question," which the magazine said it had obtained from an anonymous source.
Simpson was acquitted of the 1994 murders of his ex-wife, Nicole Brown Simpson, and Ronald Lyle Goldman after a yearlong trial. A civil jury later held him liable for the killings. On Sunday, Simpson again denied killing the pair.
Simpson declined to provide a copy of the chapter to the Associated Press.
"I don't have it," he said. "I shredded everything I had about it, and I thought I shredded it from my memory."
Newsweek's account of the chapter describes Simpson as becoming angry with his ex-wife at their daughter's dance recital. He later went to her condominium to scare her, entering through a back gate with a broken latch, the account states.
Simpson, holding a knife, encountered Goldman and accused him of planning a sexual encounter with Nicole. He became enraged when Nicole's dog appeared to recognize Goldman as a familiar visitor, the account states.
Nicole rushed at Simpson and fell, hitting her head on the ground, according to the account. Goldman then took a karate stance, further angering Simpson, who dared Goldman to fight before pulling back.
"Then something went horribly wrong, and I know what happened, but I can't tell you exactly how," Newsweek quoted Simpson as writing.
The account contains no descriptions of the killings but says Simpson was drenched in blood and holding a bloody knife when he regained control of himself. His ex-wife and Goldman were dead.
Simpson said he saw a number of factual flaws while proofreading the chapter but did not correct them because he thought that would prove that he did not write it.
The book was to be published on Nov. 30 by News Corp.-owned HarperCollins. News Corp. head Rupert Murdoch called off the project 10 days before, apologizing for any pain it had caused the families of Goldman and Nicole Brown Simpson.
"Was it tacky?" Simpson said. "Yes, it was tacky."

Godiva Chocolates, Texas, and NBA star Tony Parker. Those are just a few of Eva Longoria's loves.
But sex scenes? No thanks.

She even admits that her Desperate Housewives on-again, off-again husband Ricardo Chavira is a bit turned off by steamy scenes, mainly because they have a brother-sister relationship.
"He tells me all the time: 'People say, "You get to kiss Eva Longoria" – and he goes 'Yeah, whatever.'"

David Beckham says he called good friend Tom Cruise before accepting a multi-million dollar contract with the Los Angeles Galaxy, Reuters reports.

Braxton sues former manager for $10 million

Toni Braxton sued her former personal manager Friday, saying he owes her at least $10 million for maneuvering to have her abandon a long, lucrative relationship with her record company and jump to his own record label.
The lawsuit in U.S. District Court in Manhattan accuses Barry Hankerson of putting his financial interests ahead of Braxton’s and using fraud, deception and double-dealing to get her to leave Arista Records.
“Hankerson actively sought to destroy Braxton’s relationship with Arista through underhanded ‘double-talk,’ telling Braxton that Arista was not interested in working with her anymore, while telling Arista that Braxton no longer wanted to record for Arista,” the lawsuit said.

Globes Preview: Leo Battles Himself

It's ready, set, Globe! (Yes, we had to say that.) Hollywood's annual season of glitz and self-congratulation kicks off in earnest Monday night with the 64th Annual Golden Globe Awards (8-11 p.m. ET on NBC), and the suspense starts with red carpet arrivals.
To wit: Sacha Baron Cohen is confirmed to be bringing his fiancée, actress Isla Fisher, but who is Fisher bringing: Cohen or his alter ego, Borat? Either (or both) is up for comedy/musical actor award, as is the Borat film. (See the complete list of nominees.)
In drama, Leonardo DiCaprio's big competition is ... Leonardo DiCaprio, as he's nominated for dramatic actor for both Blood Diamond and The Departed. Ditto Clint Eastwood, up against himself as director for Flags of Our Fathers and Letters from Iwo Jima, as well as seeking a foreign language Globe for Iwo Jima against Mel Gibson's Apocalypto.
Also, Helen Mirren in Elizabeth I dukes it out with Mirren in Prime Suspect: The Final Act for miniseries actress, and faces the likes of Judi Dench in Notes on a Scandal and Kate Winslet from Little Children for movie actress.
Dreamgirls looks to score big, with Jennifer Hudson a strong favorite for supporting actress, and Eddie Murphy a good bet as supporting actor, and the movie hopes to ride a musical/comedy honor to Oscar glory. The drama category is a toss-up, with Babel and The Departed as front-runners.

Jackson vs. the Medicine Man

The good news is Michael Jackson appears to be taking his meds, if not actually paying for them. On time, that is.
A Beverly Hills pharmacy filed suit against the reclusive pop star Wednesday, claiming that Jackson was $101,926.66 behind on payments for prescriptions filled. On Friday, Jackson's rep, Raymone Bain, issued a statement saying the pharmacy "has been paid" and that the lawsuit was due to trouble the singer had with his former business managers, who he's now suing.
Mickey Fine Pharmacy sued Jackson for breach of oral contract and common count, meaning simply that the business' proprietors were after the money they were owed. According to the complaint, filed in Los Angeles Superior Court, they sought the remainder of Jackson's bill as well as court costs and any other relief the court decided to award them.
Jackson made his last payment to Mickey Fine in mid-2005 for prescriptions filled over the last two years, the lawsuit stated. Moreover, per court documents, the Thriller artist had not responded to monthly bills requesting payment.
Sadly, the notion that Jackson hadn't made good on a pharmacy bill isn't exactly shocking. The legally beleaguered performer has been plagued with financial issues for years, coming close to bankruptcy at least several times and becoming the target of multiple lawsuits demanding payment for services rendered.

"People are giving Rosie a hard time. I wish they'd stop, I don't think it's fair" the singer told TODAY's Meredith Vieira in her first-ever live interview on the morning show.
